Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a gorgeous 18th Century French Sevres porcelain and gilt bronze dresser box with elaborate hand enameled scenic panels on the top, all four sides and on the interior top. The box features a hand painted village scene with people and animals on the top that is artist signed. We believe the signature is U.
Each of the four sides of the box have a hand painted scene embellished with a delicate gilded border. Box has gilt bronze bands around the top and bottom with a good hinge with the box opening and closing correctly. The interior top is also decorated with beautiful scenic decoration. Although there are many fake Sevres marks in the market today, we are very confident that this piece is authentic and as described. Measures 1 3/4" high, 3" long and 2 1/4 wide.
This lovely box is in excellent Estate condition with the only noted flaw being a faint, tight hairline on one of the shorter sides on the interior of the box. The hairline does not go through the porcelain and is not visible on the exterior.
Other than this minor issue, the box reflects only minor signs of normal wear commensurate with age. Historical Background: Genre paintings - scenes of everyday life have always been a popular subject on Sevres porcelain boxes and vases. The use of architectural designs in the paintings was also a popular subject matter.
